How to best utilize your Ultra-wide Monitor
Below are some tips and tricks to making the most out of your ultra-wide monitor:
Snap your windows:
Knowing how to organize and best utilize all the extra space on your screen can be a challenge. Being able to ‘snap’ your windows to a certain section of your screen is a great way to organize multiple open windows at once.
There are three ways to ‘snap’ your windows: with a mouse, with a keyboard, and with Snap Assist.
Snap with a mouse
To snap with your mouse, simply click on the title bar of the corresponding window you are trying to snap
2. Click and hold the title bar and drag it to the edge of your screen (either to the left of to the right)
3. An outline will appear where the window will be ‘snapped’ once you unclick the title bar
4. Once unclicked, simple adjust the size of the window to your liking on either side of your screen
Snap with a keyboard
Begin by selecting the window that you are trying to ‘snap’
Depending on which side of your screen you are trying to ‘snap’ the window to, you press Windows Logo Key + Left Arrow or the Windows Logo Key + Right Arrow to snap the window to the corresponding side
You are also able to move the window after snapping it by simply pressing Windows Logo Key + Up or the Windows Logo Key + Down to move it to the desired corner
Snap with Snap Assist
Snap Assist is a function that appears once you have snapped a window but still have available space on your screen – it will display thumbnails of any other open windows in the empty space
To use this function, simply click on the thumbnail of the other window you want to open in the empty space
You can also resize the window by clicking and dragging/releasing the edge of the window with your mouse
Changing the text size in Windows 10 for ultra-wide screens:
Using a wider screen may require you to adjust the text size for better viewing. Follow the simple steps below to adjust for text size:
Select, on the bottom left corner of your screen, Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display
To only make the text size larger or smaller, use the slider under “Make text bigger”, to make everything larger or smaller, use the tab under “Make everything bigger” to adjust sizing
How to search for wallpapers to fit an ultra-wide screen:
One of the first things you might stumble upon trying to use your new ultra-wide screen is not being able to find a background with the right size of resolution to fit the screen. By adjusting a few search parameters in Google or another search engine, you are able to find the correct image sizes for your screen.
Follow the steps below on how to adjust your Google search:
The resolution on the ultra-wide screens are 3440x1440, the default image search on Google will bring up various sizes that may not be best suited for this size screen. Using the “advanced search” tab will allow you to refine your search
2. Begin by opening a search engine such as Google and click on the “images” tab
3. In the search bar, search for any images that you are looking to use for your background (i.e. nature) and click “search” or click the “enter” button on your keyboard
4. Click on the “settings” tab located under the search bar once page has loaded. In the drop down menu, select “advance search”
5. In the “advanced search” menu, you can adjust for the size of image that you are looking for. Click on the “image size” drop down menu and change the selection from “any size” to “Larger than 1024 x 768”. You can also change the “aspect ratio” from “any aspect ratio” to “Wide”
